Why did God choose Gideon?

Judges 6: 14-15 “Then the Lord turned to him and said ‘Go with the strength you have and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” “But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!”


Why did God choose Gideon? Gideon, a farmer, was threshing wheat by a winepress to hide from the Midianites. Then the Lord sat under an oak tree to be near Gideon.The first thing the Lord said is “the Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor”This was the way God saw Gideon not the way the world or Gideon himself saw him.I can’t help but think of the Ukraine’s President.He was an actor and comedian before he was president Did he ever think that he was going to have to lead his nation against Russia?But more importantly, look at all the people in Ukraine.The Ukraine people are all standing up and defending their country doing whatever they can to help.Gideon doubted God calling him to rescue Israel and doubted God so he asked for a sign repeatedly until the Army was whittled down to 300.You know that we have a support network called “Gideon Army Supporters”. Just like Gideon faced a fierce army, so do we at the Christian Caring Center. Our clients are face to face with poverty, homelessness, hunger, ill health, etc. and they are looking for a rescuer. Sometimes they look to us, but it’s our job and calling to point them back to God as their provider and to bring His people back to Him. I want to thank all of the 40 current Gideon supporters for answering the call to join the Christian Caring Center with a monthly gift of $35. But we really do need 300. Is God calling you? I had to trust God. He knows what He is doing when He calls some of us to serve this way. I was putting together a new power point at the center yesterday and asked this woman if she would give me a brief testimony of what the Shoprite fresh fruit and veggies and our box of food meant to her. She told me how grateful she was for the help. She is 94 years old and has outlived her IRA. Now God is her source! Another senior man told me, as he was picking out peppers, he uses them to make chili and then he freezes it for more meals. He also said, “Hunger is not pretty, empty shelves and refrigerators are not pretty, but these food boxes are!” This is some of the help that the Gideon Army Supporters are helping with. Your help is really needed at this critical time as food prices and inflation are on the rise with our people on fixed incomes, working single parents, homeless, etc. None of our programs would be possible without your continued giving and we are deeply grateful. Thank you for sharing your prayers, time, and financial gifts to spread this wonderful Gospel to the people we serve at the Christian Caring Center.
