What does it mean to be a hero?

Judges 8:4-5 “Gideon and his three hundred men, exhausted yet keeping up the pursuit, came to the Jordan and crossed it. He said to the men of Sukkoth, “Give my troops some bread; they are worn out and I am still pursing Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.”

What does it mean to be a hero? For God to call you a hero it’s usually after He calls you to be a warrior. There are many ways you can be called to be a warrior, but with the Lord it is usually out of your comfort zone. For Gideon who was a Judge, military leader, and prophet was no stranger to being a warrior. However, now God calls him to free Israel and to condemn their idolatry. Gideon was use to commanding great armies but God wanted the glory and to bring the Israelites back to Him so God whittles down the army to 300 and becomes a hero when he and his army of 300 get victory over the Midianites. During this time of stay at home orders, schools and businesses shut down, unprecedented numbers of people with the COVID 19 virus and too many people dying; we at the Christian Caring Center are seeing large numbers of people needing support of all kinds. The food pantry numbers are climbing from an average of 215 households when open 6 days per week to 413 households while only open 2 days per week, 689 meals prepared and given out in 2 days each week, providing emergency shelter in our 2 men’s shelter and motels with 64 Individuals with 372 nights of shelter- Praise the LORD!!! So many of you are asking how can I help from home.

  • For the next 3 months your donation of any amount will be matched by a great donation from First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown up to $15,000.
