Galatians 6:9-10 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harve
We are in the season of Thankfulness but what happens when you are doing the same thing- over and over year after year? Whether or not you’re serving homeless and low income persons, being a full time wife and mother, spreading the gospel of Jesus in your church, etc. and nobody notices, nobody says thank you etc. We all know that is only a few times we get a thank you and the real work is in daily showing up for the “work” dealing with the people, praying, working after hours. We see the need daily and we seem to never have enough resources and that sometimes gets us weary. So what can we do?
We recognize that Jesus is the supplier!
We look back over our life and ministry and remind ourselves what Jesus has already done. He has never failed. (I think sometimes He does because the need is not met at the crisis in front of me and years later that person comes in and testifies how their house was above their means, they became homeless but their friend opened a door to them and they were able to bless that friend by giving financially, go to school, get a different job, less stress and more money, and they were able to restore their family and home!)
Have boundaries. It’s ok. We realize the scripture says that we are to “Do Good”. That is our job, to represent Jesus at all times by being kind, sharing the goodness of the gospel, and being generous with what we have. Sometimes we might not have all of the needs for––the person, but God will supply someone else with the rest or another portion. Our job is to bring them to the feet of Jesus and teach them how He is the supplier of all their needs not me. Know when to go to the mountain and spend time with your heavenly Father.
Let us not be weary in well doing. Well doing does not simply mean doing our duty, but the performance of acts of kindness, and has a reference to men. This precept was the very testimony of Jesus’s ministry--reaching the unworthy, unjust, the mean ones, the drug dealer on the corner. For me it’s the alcoholic drug addicts in the woods, the mentally ill homeless woman and man, as well as the working single mom, the hard working dad and mom trying to make ends meet.
Lastly, don’t be “WELL DOING” alone. We need each other. That is the strength of the church, to encourage one another in faith, well doing, and to fellowship with each other.
We need to remember that our reward is Eternity with Jesus for us and for others to obtain the same reward. Our present time is seed time; in heaven we shall reap as we sow now. As we have - opportunity - While it is the time of sowing let us sow the good seed; and let our love be, as the love of Christ! So in this season of thankfulness, let me send a huge THANK YOU TO YOU!!! I praise God for your partnering with us in prayer, giving and serving. We could never do it without you! Happy Thanksgiving.
